Peder Mannerfelt has recently released “Carbonated” by music duo Carbon 96 on his ‘Peder Mannerfelt Produktion’ label. We caught up with him for a quickfire Q&A.

Why music?

Music is the first thing I think about when I wake up and the last thought in my head before I fall asleep. There’s no other option.

“Carbonated” by Carbon 96

If you weren’t making music what would you be doing?

If I really had to do something else, I would probably be a chef.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Never stop, and never give up.

What inspires you?

New and exciting music. The bar is constantly being raised regarding music production and how it can be presented. I want to be a part of this and learn from what’s to come.

What’s the next big thing?

Aasthma.

Best club experience?

Walking up the stairs to Berghain for the first time just as Norman Nodge dropped “Energy Flash”. Or maybe the last time Pär Grindvik and I played there or maybe going to a drum & bass night with a fake ID when I was 16 or so.

There are so many formative and memorable experiences from the last 25 years and still, I feel the best is yet to come!

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?

I was a sailor in the navy.

How do you know when a track’s finished?

When it blows my mind.

What was your last day job and when did you realise you could give it up?

I was a studio engineer, juggling being a runner and a tea boy.

Which song do you wish you wrote?

Righteous Brothers – Unchained Melody.

What’s the easiest way to make it in the music industry?

There is no easy way. Even the people who seemingly took an easy route have probably worked their asses off to get to where they are now. You gotta work to get what you deserve because no one else is going to do it for you.

What’s the worst track you’ve ever released?

I’ve never released a bad track.

If someone saw a performance of yours in 1000 years, what do you think they would say?

Nice one 😎.

What are you addicted to?

YouTube.

What do you lust over?

Sleep.

What is your greatest regret?

I’ve had a few, but then again too few to mention.

What one thing would most improve your life?

A new computer.

What’s the worst gig you’ve ever played?

No idea, I have probably repressed it to keep afloat. There’s no point in dwelling on the negative.

Collaboration: rich creative experience or pain in the ass?

Love it!

What’s the secret to a great mix?

Gating.

If you could only listen to one more track, what would it be?

Daft Punk – One More Time.

How do you relax?

By watching guitar repair videos on YouTube.

What one piece of software/kit could you not do without? Why?

Ableton, it’s got everything I need to make and finish music.

Art or money?

Money.

Ronaldo or Messi?

Pfft, do I like I care about fucking sports?

Strangest place you ever wrote a track?

Not sure, in a car maybe?

What’s your single biggest frustration in the music industry?

Inherited structures.

What’s your favourite label? Why?

What’s the worst thing about making music?

Having to finish and release it.

What’s your motto?

Say yes.

Name something timeless
