The recording of my latest album, Stand Up, took almost three years, the longest time I have ever spent on recording an album. After Stand Up was finally released in April of this year I reflected on my process.

My biggest insight was that I over-thought things to the point where I was fucking with my creativity. My wife saw this before I did and she slapped me around a little. Thank goodness she is such a hard arse or I may still be working on that album.

So in hindsight I’ve learned to stay the hell out of my own way and stop over-analysing everything. Creating music is magical in some way and it should be fun, not arduous.

I’ve learned to stay the hell out of my own way.

I also learned that I should listen to my wife more often. She’s standing over my shoulder dictating this as I write it. Thanks, honey!

  • Cool!

Can definitely recognise some of these.

My big regret? Not having more confidence in what I was doing earlier and thinking that more kit would instil that confidence.

  • I´d wish Dan Curtin stayed on his initial path. Most of his earlier stuff is amazing.

  • I dig this. Attack you guys are absolutely killing it with these articles. I feel that this collective really aims to please the serious artists out here and not just cater to the business aspect. Yes, electronic music is getting much bigger but those of us that take it seriously still need an outlet and a space like this to gather information but also share ideas. Great stuff!
