Splice has introduced Splice INSTRUMENT, a plugin-based platform offering hundreds of free, multi-sampled presets, as well as a paid tier that unlocks a full library of over 1,200 sounds. The launch integrates Spitfire Audio’s recording heritage into Splice’s ecosystem
Splice has introduced Splice INSTRUMENT, a virtual instrument platform that gives producers access to an extensive library of high-end multi‑sampled presets. As of today, the service boasts over 1,200 playable presets, with new additions planned monthly.
From free library drops to full access via paid plans, Splice positions INSTRUMENT as a creative tool that bridges high-end recording fidelity and accessible playability. Highlights of the sounds include a baby grand piano recorded at Philip Glass’ home, drum performances by Abe Laboriel Jr. captured at Henson Studios, and orchestral sessions from the BBC Symphony Orchestra at Maida Vale Studios.
A New Direction for Splice
Splice has long been known as a platform for samples, loops, and collaborative tools for producers. With INSTRUMENT, the company is entering the domain of plugins and studio tools.
The launch comes following Splice’s acquisition of Spitfire Audio in April, and the engine and chassis are based on Spitfire Audio’s technology. Combining detailed multi‑sampling with an interface designed to be intuitive, Splice says users will see regular drops of both free and premium presets, created by artists, in‑house teams, and external partners.
Spitfire co‑founder Paul Thomson noted that sounds from the collection had already been used in award‑nominated albums and film scores, and that INSTRUMENT builds on Splice’s earlier LABS initiative by offering “affordable access to inspiring, expressive sounds.” According to Splice CEO Kakul Srivastava, the move marks the first step beyond Splice’s core sample business into fully playable instruments.
Pricing
Splice INSTRUMENT is available immediately with two available plans.
- Free plan: All users (including new signups) get access to hundreds of sampled presets spanning pianos, orchestral instruments, synths, choirs, and experimental textures. These free downloads are cumulative, and once downloaded, sounds remain in a user’s library permanently.
- INSTRUMENT Plan ($12.99/month) & Creator Plans: These unlock the full catalogue of 1,200+ presets, including flagship instruments like Ultra Soft Piano, orchestral ensembles by the BBC, synths built in collaboration (e.g. with Nathan Fake), and genre‑specific packs (e.g. amapiano)
