MPC Live III focuses on expression and speed with expressive MPCe™  pads and 8-core processing, Clip Matrix arrangement, step sequencing and DAW hand-off via 24-channel USB-C audio.

Akai Professional has introduced the MPC Live III, featuring an 8-core processor, 8 GB of RAM, and new MPCe™ pads with 3D sensing. It also features a dedicated 16-step sequencer, touch strip, Clip Matrix, built-in microphone and speakers, plus expanded I/O for both studio and stage use.

The control surface centres on 16 full-size RGB MPCe™ pads with per-pad expressive control, a 7-inch touchscreen for editing, and 16 RGB performance buttons. An internal rechargeable battery and external PSU support mobile use, with onboard stereo monitoring for quick auditioning.

Performance and expression come first

The 16 MPCe™ pads introduce 3D-sensing input designed to extend control beyond velocity and pressure. Per-pad X/Y modulation enables tasks such as blending sample layers, shaping note repeats and articulations, and manipulating pad parameters in real time. The addition of a performance touch strip brings fast access to effects, pitch and modulation during sets, reducing reliance on external controllers.

‘I feel the new expressive pads on the Akai Professional MPC Live III will enhance my performance,’ said music producer JBlack (BeatsbyJBlack). ‘They’re going to add what’s missing from my beats – that excitement. The booms, the FX – now it’s right there on one pad.’

Step sequencing on a MPC

For the first time on a Live-series unit, a dedicated 16-step sequencer with function buttons provides immediate pattern entry common to electronic production. The new Clip Matrix mirrors session-style workflows, allowing users to launch MIDI and audio loops of different lengths and arrange ideas in real time without stopping playback. Follow actions, snapshots, and row-based tempo options further support improvisational performance.

Processing power and OS features

An internal 8-core CPU with 8 GB RAM under MPC3 OS 3.6 targets heavier, plug-in-centric sessions. Akai specifies support for up to 32 simultaneous plug-ins alongside 16 audio tracks. Pro Stems Separation is included for extracting parts from mixed sources, while Super Timestretch handles wide tempo shifts. The MPC3 Pro Pack – bundled with Live III and also sold separately for compatible MPC3 OS units – adds AIR effects and instruments plus workflow utilities such as Clip Editor.

Record on the move

A built-in microphone supports quick vocal takes and field recording, while integrated stereo speakers offer on-the-spot monitoring. Together with an internal rechargeable battery, these features enable sketching ideas and rehearsing away from a studio environment. A 7-inch multi-touch display anchors editing and navigation in both production and performance contexts.

Pricing

The MPC Live III is available now – priced at $1,699 USD, €1,649.99 and £1,399.99. The MPC3 Pro Pack feature expansion ships with Live III and is also offered separately for other MPC3 OS-compatible units, with compatibility details listed by the manufacturer.
