Born from VibeLab’s research and activism, the new foundation aims to elevate the role of nightlife in urban culture, policy, and community.

A new global nonprofit, the Nighttime Foundation, has officially launched to advocate for nightlife as a vital part of urban life. Emerging from the work of nightlife research consultancy VibeLab, the Foundation brings together creators, policymakers, and cultural leaders to champion nightlife as a driver of economic resilience, social cohesion, and cultural identity.

The organisation responds to growing global interest in night-time governance, especially as cities adapt to climate change, shifting economies, and changing social dynamics. Its mission is to ensure that the people shaping nightlife culture – from artists to venue operators – have the tools and influence to shape its future.

Shaping nightlife through research, policy, and community

The Foundation builds on VibeLab’s work with cities and nightlife commissions in over 100 global locations. It aims to support pilot programmes, circulate best practices, and foster international knowledge exchange. It also places a strong emphasis on nightlife’s role in addressing urban isolation and strengthening community ties.

Board members include Chair Dr. Anna-Marazuela Kim, a cultural advisor working at the intersection of policy and the arts; Treasurer Georgia McDonnell-Adams, a strategist with experience at brands like Boiler Room; and Secretary Kae Burke, co-founder of New York’s House of Yes nightclub. Their combined expertise spans cultural advocacy, brand strategy, and inclusive nightlife leadership.

A global survey by the Foundation gathered input from over 100 nightlife professionals, academics, and advocates. Results pointed to strong demand for practical support: 73% called for best-practice toolkits, while 68% each emphasised policy advocacy and professional networking. Respondents also emphasised the importance of community engagement and forward-thinking policies in achieving nightlife success.

The Foundation’s work is structured around three pillars: innovation, education, and community. Planned initiatives include the NTEReport, profiling tech and sustainability leaders in nightlife; a Nightlife Ethics Toolkit to promote responsible practices; and Nighttime Labs, a dialogue series held at major international gatherings.

As cities undergo fundamental shifts in how public space is utilised after dark, the Foundation positions itself as a facilitator for long-term cultural and economic planning. It advocates for recognising nightlife not just as entertainment, but as a critical lens on the cities we want to live in.

The Foundation is now inviting participation from the global nightlife community through donations and an open survey. Supporters range from creators and venue owners to policymakers and research.
