Ahead of his appearance at Belgium’s Extrema Festival this weekend, the German house mainstay runs us through his all-time favourites.

The first time you remember hearing electronic music?

I was maybe 16 and older friends took me to an illegal party in an improvised club called Basis in my hometown, Leipzig. It was a low-ceilinged basement and all you could see was stroboscope lightning through the fog. Classic.

Your favourite ever record?

It used to be ‘Around The House’ by Matthew Herbert for many years. Right now I don’t know. It keeps changing.

The guaranteed floor-filler?

Double 99 – ‘RIP Groove’. There are a lot of floor fillers, but a classic like this usually does the job best.

The guilty pleasure?

Dr. Rockit – ‘Café De Flore’. I love this track that Matthew Herbert did as Dr. Rockit. It has a Charles Webster remix on the flipside which is great too. Classic deep house of the late 90s/early 2000s.

The best chillout record?

Miles DavisKind Of Blue. This masterpiece shouldn’t be missing in anybody’s music collection.
