“Drum machines, vintage synthesisers and singing – not necessarily in that order.” Lukas Lyrestam introduces himself.

Who are you?

Lukas Lyrestam, bringer of all things funky and heartbreaking at the same time – lives 4 house.

What do you sound like?

Boards of Canada with a face… Galcher Lustwerk on a funky tip… Tame Impala with balls…

Why should we listen to you?

Drum machines, vintage synthesisers and singing – not necessarily in that order. It might just be the thing that you need.

What have you released so far? What else have you got coming out in the near future?

I’ve put out two releases on OH! Records, a vinyl-only release on my very own Clouded House and remixed Ali Love thus far. Coming to a record store near you very soon is CH002 – Can’t Move (TIP!) with a feature by my homeboy Jakob and a vinyl-only release in the summer on Finnish powerhouse label Common Labour with remixes by the very talented Kask and Powel.

What song sums you up? Why?

The stone-cold classic that is Roy Davis Jr’s ‘Gabriel’ will always be closest to my heart. “He was an archangel of love!”

What or who is your biggest influence and why?

I don’t want to do any one of my many idols disjustice by picking one specifically, so I’m going to mention a new favourite. Jack J of Mood Hut and Pender Street Steppers is what all up-and-coming DJs and producers should aspire to. A powerful yet thoughtful selector behind the decks, he makes music that flatters the rich history of dance music rather than plagiarises it. Just keep reaching for the top…

Where can we hear your music?

On wax, SoundCloud and iTunes, but it always sounds better in the flesh.

Where will you be in five years’ time?

Getting down, throwing shapes. If it all goes to shit I could always pull one of these?

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.

I’m an ex voiceover actor. Previous features include a three-season stint on animated series Dinosaur Rampage as the telepathically gifted spaceship captain Djokai.

‘Can’t Move’ is out on May 20th on Clouded House. Find Lukas on Facebook and SoundCloud.
