‘I used to sound like piña colada by the pool in a fancy beach hotel… now I’m switching more to LSD by the pool in a fancy beach hotel.’. Bufi introduces himself.

Who are you?

I used to be a classical guitar student at one of Mexico’s national conservatories, but then I became an electronic music producer because I realised that classical music performance was just too hard. Besides that, I’m a decent FIFA player, a loving husband and an animal lover.

Bufi

What do you sound like?

Depends on the year. I used to sound like piña colada by the pool in a fancy beach hotel… now I’m switching more to LSD by the pool in a fancy beach hotel.

Why should we listen to you?

Because I bring an uncommon type of joy to the commonly depressed. And because LSD is cool (Nah just kidding, drugs are bad kids).

What have you released so far? What else have you got coming out in the near future?

I have released a lot of music, maybe more than I should have! But most of it is good, I think (haha). I do have plans to release music in the near future: one of them is to release my third album in early 2019, the other is to release an EP with Cologne label Feines Teir, also in 2019.

What song sums you up? Why?

I’m gonna give you 2 songs. The first one is Bufi: ‘La Fuerza’, and the second one is Sunday – ‘Only’ (Bufi Remix). The first one defines me because I think it’s a good balance between funk, repetitiveness, quirkiness and psychedelia, which are some of the things I appreciate most in music. The second one because it has all of the mentioned above, plus a touch of “pop” on the vocals, which I also appreciate sometimes.

What or who is your biggest influence and why?

It always changes, but I think Brian Eno has been the strongest one the past few years. Why? Because he taught me about funk, repetitiveness, quirkiness and psychedelia in music. Besides him, all of my music colleagues have had a strong influence on me: Juan Soto, Mijo, Thomass Jackson, Dan Solo and Iñigo Vontier, to name a few.

Where can we hear your music?

In the mighty Internet and in some record stores around the world. Also in FM Radio, in a few, selected locations.

Where will you be in five years’ time?

In the FIFA national championship finals.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.

I’m married to a sort of CSI superwoman.

Bufi’s ‘Brujerias‘ is out on Duro on 30th November. Find him on Facebook, Twitter and Soundcloud.
