New industry-first drag-and-drop feature enables direct audio searches from within your DAW to find similar sounds.
WAVS has announced the release of an AI-powered Sample Finder feature, now available in its VST. The new functionality allows music producers to drag and drop audio files directly from their DAW into the WAVS plugin to search for similar sounds. Producers can now identify sonically related samples without manual browsing, making it easier to find sounds that complement their current work.
Designed to streamline the sample discovery process, the AI Sample Finder leverages an audio similarity algorithm to match user-submitted audio with WAVS’ library of over 100,000 curated samples.
An Industry First
WAVS’ AI algorithm is designed to match sounds based on sonic similarity rather than metadata alone. This marks an industry first for plugins: while other tools, like Splice’s Search with Sound, suggest samples that complement what you feed in (for example, finding melodically or rhythmically compatible sounds), WAVS’ AI Similar Sounds feature is built to suggest samples that actually sound alike.
That difference in focus creates new use cases. If you’ve designed a sound or written a melody you like, you can use WAVS to instantly find sonically similar samples. You can also feed in part of an existing track, and the algorithm will suggest samples that match its style and feel.
The Sample Finder integrates seamlessly into the existing WAVS plugin, which already offers search filters by artist, mood, energy, and style.
Licensing Model and Sample Library
WAVS operates with a hybrid royalty model. Nearly half of its sample catalogue is royalty-free. For samples requiring clearance, licensing is only triggered after a track surpasses one million streams or receives a major-label release. This model enables quicker publishing for independent producers while still offering compensation to sample creators.
The platform’s library includes more than 100,000 samples, presets, and MIDI files across a range of modern genres. Content ranges from one-shots and loops to full song-starters, with samples automatically syncing to the DAW’s tempo and key when previewed through the plugin.
Availability
The AI Sample Finder is now available for all WAVS users. It is included in the latest version of the plugin, which can be downloaded from the WAVS website. The feature works across both Mac and Windows systems, supporting major DAWs through AU and VST formats.
