Tottenham nightclub, The Cause, is adding a three-storey 5,000-square-foot room, named “The Theatre”.

The additional room and expansion of the front terrace will provide more space for guests to adhere to social distancing regulations.

The Cause, which opened in April 2018, is a 100% independent DIY dance music space that is renowned for its social consciousness, helping to raise over £100K for charity in under two years. The coronavirus pandemic has forced the nightclub to close its doors since March, putting it under intense financial pressure. It is evident from Boris Johnson’s latest announcement regarding lockdown easing that UK nightclubs won’t be opening in the coming weeks, however, industry officials have begun thinking about ways they will be able to operate whilst adhering to social distancing regulations.

“We were set to unveil this space on Easter Thursday with a ridiculous unannounced back to back from two Chicago OGs,” says cofounder, Stuart Glen. “COVID has shattered our dreams, and we have been close to abandoning this expansion due to financial constraints. We are now in a catch-22; we either give this back to our landlord, spending money to reinstate changes or we plow on, fundraise a little further and finish what we have started. Double or quits really, but we have faith in our community to make this happen!”

A Crowdfunder page has been set up to help fund the expansion and to support the venue through the pandemic. There are numerous rewards for donations: £15 bags you a ticket to the opening party of the Theatre, £20 gets you a round of drinks when the club reopens, £100 enables 12 months free entry to the club. The fundraiser has already raised over £25k.
