FL Studio becomes the first major DAW to launch a browser-based version, FL Studio Web, enabling users to start projects in the browser and finish them in the desktop application.
Image-Line CEO Constantin Köhncke announced yesterday the launch of a browser-based version of FL Studio, bringing the DAW’s full production environment to the web for the first time. It features redesigned FL Studio plugins optimised for browser use, alongside deep integration with FL Cloud. Early beta access is now available via a waitlist, marking the first time a legacy DAW has been released as a fully functional, browser-based platform.
Bridging desktop and cloud workflows
FL Studio Web can be accessed on macOS, Windows, Linux, and across various processor architectures, including ARM and x64. It represents a notable expansion of Image-Line’s ecosystem, combining cloud integration and real-time browser-based editing. Users can initiate projects directly from a browser without installation, and then export them into the full desktop software environment to continue production.
The availability of a browser version removes the need for administrative permissions or lengthy installation processes, making it more accessible for all music producers, in particular those looking to try something for the first time with no strings attached. At launch, you’re greeted with an assistant to lead you through all the main controls and help you get your first idea made quickly. The assistant can be toggled on or off at any time. The beta version also includes drum MIDI generation, trained on specific genres to provide users with a starting point for realistic, expressive drum patterns.
FL Studio’s web version may prompt shifts across the DAW market, where web-based access has been limited despite increasing demand. Though platforms like Reason have previously introduced web-compatible components, a fully featured DAW experience – from a legacy player with recognised market share – has remained elusive for most major developers.
As of now, it’s optimised for Google Chrome but can still be accessed in most browsers.
