Technics announces return of SL-1200, LCD Soundsystem set to reform, drugs policies in electronic music culture and why audiophile sound quality is going public.

Pioneer Teases NXS2 updates. DJs Erick Morillo and Kaskade talk sound, the craft and the future in Pioneer’s promo video teasing the updates to its premium Nexus series, coming in 2016. The new products will be shown off at this month’s NAMM show. Not much is currently known about the specifics, but according to Kaskade, expect gear with a “warm sound” that’s “true to what it should sound like”. Watch above.

Technics Announces Return of SL-1200. The Technics SL-1200 became the turntable of choice for DJs thanks to the deck’s combination of reliability and a high-torque, direct-drive mechanism, but SL-1200 production ceased in 2010. Following a popular petition, the company have now announced the return of the legendary SL-1200 series, but at a price. What Hi Fi reports that they’ll cost $4,000 each…

LCD Soundsystem Set To Reform. Having disbanded in 2011 with a huge gig at Madison Square Garden, LCD Soundsystem have confirmed that they’re set to reform, and will be headlining Coachella and releasing a new studio album some time in 2016. It’s “not a victory lap”, frontman James Murphy writes in a Facebook post explaining the decision, here. Deadspin‘s Rob Harvilla dissects the announcement here, explaining that “LCD Soundsystem don’t owe you anything, including silence”.
