Major Lazer criticise media link between EDM and drugs. Diplo and Jillionaire spoke to Rolling Stone about America’s “conservative culture” which pretends that drugs don’t exist and fails to properly educate festival-goers about drug use. The media furore came after Electric Zoo was shut early due to two MDMA-related deaths.

Homeless charities looking for equipment for Dance for Decks DJ Skills Workshop. The DJ school will be based in St Mungo’s recovery college and will run every Wednesday, offering homeless people an opportunity to work with well-known DJs to learn practical DJ tips, as well as edit and upload their mixes in a studio. The overwhelming interest in the programme means Dance for Decks are looking for donations of DJ equipment, or teaching time. Read more here.

Horsepower Productions complete new album on Tempa. The underground dubstep originators have revived around founding member Benny Ill, who speaks in this video about his early inspirations, the nature of the collective and how he sees the future of dubstep. The album is forthcoming, with no confirmed release date.

“We just turn on our motherfuckin’ equipment.” Three Chairs to play rare gig in London. The collective, comprising Detroit house luminaries Moodymann, Theo Parrish, Rick Wilhite and Marcellus Pittmann, are known for their unprogrammed sets and their furious mix of techno, soul and jazz. UK police launch Intellectual Property Crime Unit. The unit of 19 is supported by £2.56m of funding from the Intellectual Property Office and will have a specific focus on online IP violation. They hope to prosecute serious offenders, seize criminal assets and disrupt online supply chains.

Manix to release new bass and breaks album. The album is tipped to hail back to the jungle and hardcore of the early 90s and reflect Marc Clair’s signature piano-heavy breakbeat sound. The album is out on Reinforced Records on October 14th. Listen to a preview below.

Disclosure dribbling. Sam Smith said he and the Lawrence brothers were “dribbling with happiness” during their recent studio collaboration with Nile Rodgers, where he imparted various pearls of wisdom. The feeling was mutual; Rodgers took to Twitter calling it a “KICK A$$ session” and hailing Disclosure as “the REAL F-ing DEAL”.

Beatport appoints Terry Weerasinghe as Vice President of Music Services. Weerasinghe was previously Head of Marketing at Native Instruments’ DJ division, where he revamped the Traktor brand through social media and the iOS app. He will be based at Beatport’s Berlin office.

Four Tet streams new track, will play 8am set in London. Four Tet dropped ‘Parallel Jalebi’ (presumably named after the outstanding Indian sweet) from his forthcoming LP Beautiful Rewind, while tickets went on sale this morning for his all-day party at London’s Village Underground on Sunday 27th October, for which attendees are advised to arrive early as he will be playing his live set at 8am sharp.
