Native Instruments releases Reaktor 6, tributes to pioneering UK house DJ Colin Faver, an event for Syrian refugees, and What Happens After The Hit?

Native Instruments releases Reaktor 6. Reaktor 6 is the first major update of the popular modular synthesiser plugin in 10 years; it has been built from the ground up, according to NI. The new version features Blocks, a framework that turns Reaktor into a “fully-equipped, rack style modular synth”, enabling users to connect a collection of components including some from other NI synths. What Happened After The Hit? The Guardian tracks down some of the first generation of UK rave hitmakers, who reshaped British pop with Chicago and Detroit sounds, to find out the story of their biggest rave anthems and the effect these tracks had on the lives of those who made them. People Over Borders. Manchester DJ Elliot Eastwick is organising an event at The Deaf Institute in Manchester, in aid of Syria Relief, to provide help and supplies to families in Syria and the refugee camps in Macedonia, Greece and Hungary. The artists and DJs confirmed to play so far include Badly Drawn Boy, Black Rivers, Nat Birchall, and many others. Find out, donate and buy a ticket here.

Pioneering UK DJ Colin Faver Dies. According to reports, one of the UK’s longest-serving DJs has died aged 63. Colin Faver was an important figure in the development of British club culture, a champion of acid house, and a founder of London’s Kiss FM. “So long Colin Faver, UK techno pioneer and also industrial / post punk era promoter extraordinaire. An inspiration!” said Optimo‘s JD Twitch. The cause of death is currently unconfirmed. Stream Faver’s mix of UK proto-rave sounds from Kiss FM, 1991, above.
