Mint nightclub to close. Bestival’s uncertain future and Cassette Week.
A good read. A new 96-page book documenting early Chicago House music has been published. Titled ‘Beyond Heaven: Chicago House Party Flyers From 1983-1989’. According to Almighty & Insane Books, the book “offers a taste of what many consider to be the best times of their lives, and for others acts as a gateway to one of greatest eras in the history of Chicago music.” You can purchase here but we hope to stock some on the Attack store soon.
Endings are beginnings in disguise. Leeds’ Mint Club is to close after two decades as a mainstay of Leeds nightlife. Having originally launched with Derrick Carter playing the opening nigth, it’s a sad closue but as Tristan Da Cunha put it “one thing I do know is endings are beginnings in disguise”. Initially launched in 2013 as Cassette Store Day, due to the resurgence in sales and cassette revival, Discogs have announce Cassette Week which will lead into Cassette Store Day on October 13th. According to the offical sales charts, sales have continued to impress and with life in the old tape yet, why not celebrate it over the course of the week. More info here.

Bestival’s uncertain future. The organisers of Bestival are looking for new investors after Richmond Group, owned by loans tycoon James Benamor, put the UK festival company into administration on September 20th. There is a full statement on the company website.
Another themed week? As part of Vinyl Obsession Week (a new themed week brought to you by E-Bay), encouraging statistics suggest that the vinyl market is larger, by possibly double, than originally suggested. Forbes have reported that used vinyl sales are not being accounted for correctly but if they were the marketplace is double what they believed. In a streaming generation, it’s good news for fans of the format. Read more here.
Time for a new skin. Adam Audio in partnership with Headline Brands/ DJ-Skins are intrdoucing a set of five skin stickers for it’s AX series. Whilst it won’t make the studio sound better, it might help customisze the overall aesthetic of the place. See the range here.
Stay vigilant. Korg are warning customers to be vigilant when buying a Kronos or Grandstage outside of an appointed dealer. After their distributor was broken into, customers who unintentionally purchase stolen goods can still have them confiscated. The list of stolen serial numbers is below:
