Monday night in with Optimo, a journey through jungle, cassette-recorded Freek FM and sunrise at Burning Man.

BurnMan
“When the sun hits the edge of the Deep Playa.” A glorious sunrise mix from Damian Lazarus, recorded live at the Rebel Heart party on the Thursday morning of Burning Man this year.

A rare cassette-recorded late 90s jam. Yeah yeah, go get a late pass, but we just got tipped off to this awesome garage mix by Karl ‘Tuff Enough’ Brown from EZ’s show on Freek FM in 1997.

Monday night in with Optimo. The Sub Club godfathers set down a gentle mix laden with global rhythms for their eighth monthly show at Rinse FM.

Special Request in the mix. Having recently released the raw, pirate radio-inspired Soul Music LP on Houndstooth, Paul Woolford’s grimier moniker Special Request makes another welcome appearance in the mix for XLR8R. Listen to and download it here.

Detroitt

Detroit’s new blood. Kyle Hall has been disrupting the Motor City scene for years, and all before the tender age of 22. XLR8R celebrate his innovative and independent take on techno and house with this hefty mix featuring much of his own work and that of his fellow citymen.

A journey through jungle. Before recently tucking away his aliases to release solely under his own name for Warp, Mark Pritchard had seen and produced everything from ambient techno to grime during his decades in dance music. Pritchard shares some of his nostalgic wisdom in this recollection of his jungle influences from 1988 to 1993 (part two still to come). For an extra old-school fix, he also points us in the direction of this excellent mix of UK hip hop from 1988 to 1992 by Luke Vibert.

Marshall Jefferson celebrates Trax Records.  The seminal Chicago house label launched their mammoth Traxbox compilation earlier in October and Jefferson has served up this mix for Noisey to celebrate. The selection features plenty of retrospective tracks from the big man himself under his various guises.

Pure drum and bass from A Sides. A veteran on the scene, A Sides has had countless releases for the likes of Metalheadz, Playaz and Hospital and collaborated with everyone from Calibre to Goldie. In advance of his appearance at LTJ Bukem’s Bukem In Session residency in Room 2 last Friday, A Sides put together this mix for Fabric.
