DJ Erick Morillo has been found dead in Miami aged 49.

Erick Morillo has been found dead in his Miami home, according to local police reports. The cause of death has not been confirmed.

In a statement obtained by Mixmag, Miami Beach Police Department said:  “We received a 911 call this morning at 10:42 a.m to 5660 La Gorce Drive in Miami Beach. Detectives responded to the scene and did not observe any apparent signs of foul play. The cause of death will be determined by the Miami Dade Medical Examiner’s Office.”

The news comes after Morillo was arrested and charged for sexual battery early last month. For months, he had denied the accusation of sexually assaulting a woman he worked with after a party in December, but following a rape kit that tested positive for his DNA, Morillo turned himself in.

His arraignment, the court proceeding at which a criminal defendant is formally advised of the charges against him, was due to take place this Friday, September 4th.

Morillo became well-known in the 90s thanks to international hits like ‘I Like To Move It’, which was used in both Madagascar films. He was a three-time winner of both “Best House DJ” and “Best International DJ” awards, and won best international DJ in 2002, 2006 and 2009.
