Beyonce takes home ‘Best Dance/Electronic Album’ while Purple Disco Machine secures his first win for ‘Best Remixed Recording’.

Beyonce’s ‘Renaissance’ stole the show in electronic music categories at this year’s Grammys. The album won the top prize, ‘Best Dance/Electronic Recording’, beating out Bonobo, Odesza, Rüfüs Du Sol, and Diplo.

‘Break my Soul’, the lead single from ‘Renaissance’ was also awarded ‘Best/Dance Electronic Recording’. Other nominees in the category included, ‘Rosewood’ (Bonobo), ‘Don’t Forget My Love’ (Diplo & Miguel), ‘I’m Good (Blue)’ (David Guetta & Bebe Rexha), ‘Intimidated’ (Kaytranada feat. H.E.R.), and ‘On My Knees’ Rüfüs Du Sol.

Before the release of the album and during her acceptance speeches Beyonce expressed gratitude to the black and queer artists who were the originators of electronic music. In a letter to fans she wrote: “Thank you to all of the pioneers who originate culture, to all of the fallen angels whose contributions have gone unrecognized for far too long. This is a celebration for you.”

For the album, Beyonce also enlisted the help of contemporary electronic music icon Honey Dijon. The famed DJ and producer received production credits for her work on ‘Cozy‘ and ‘Alien Superstar’. Honey Dijon also recently released a remix of ‘Best Dance/Electonic Recording’ winner ‘Break My Soul’.

Purple Disco Machine Wins ‘Best Remixed Recording’

German Dj and producer Tino Piontek aka Purple Disco Machine received his first ever Grammy nomination and win for his remix of Lizzo’s ‘About Damn Time’.

In an interview right after the win Piontek said “I was so surprised and overwhelmed… I never expected this because the category was so strong and everyone deserved it, but now I’m here and I’m so happy.”

Runners up for the award included Four Tet, Paul Woolford, Soulwax, and Terry Hunter.

Elsewhere Kendrick Lamar won ‘Best Rap Album’ for ‘Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers’ as well as ‘Best Rap Performance’ and ‘Best Rap Song’ for ‘The Heart Part 5’.
