Leading Chicago producer Gene Farris (Relief, Toolroom, Defected, Soma) has just dropped his superb ‘Space Girl’ track on Dirtybird. We asked him to tell us a little about his interests outside of music in this months Show & Tell.
Star Wars

Chicago Bulls
I went to my first Bulls games with my dad when I was seven years old, and we sucked bad but I always loved the Bulls. Then we got the GOAT Michael Jordan and my life and everything changed! He is my favourite athlete of all time. Being from Chicago we have a lot of great things, but MJ is at the top of the list.
Superman
One of my favourite characters growing up was Superman and he is still one of my favourite comic characters today. The way he’s evolved in comics is truly amazing, also that he has been able to keep all the things that made him great to me as a kid. Truth, justice and all that stuff.
Friday
One of my favourite things to do is smoke weed and chill. There is no better way to do that, then to watch the movie ‘Friday’. This is my favourite movie to watch while smoking, this is something you have to do if you haven’t. “AND YOU KNOW THIS MAN!”
Golf
Looking at me being a 6’5 black man from the south side of Chicago, you would never think that I golf but I do. I love it and golf regularly in the summer when I’m not on tour. I’ve been golfing now since 2004 and I love it. Best thing in the world to do stoned 😉
Barbecue
I Love BBQ! It’s my favourite thing to eat hands down! I love to eat a lot of different things but if I had to pick just one it would be BBQ. Brisket, ribs, links, tips, burgers, dogs…yum!!! Bring it on!
Video Games
In my downtime, I play video games, mostly sports games and I love NBA 2K and Madden. I love to play; it makes my mind completely forget about music, work or anything that’s bothered me in my day. I have been playing with friends for years since high school and some games get pretty heated! Look me up online! Farriswheels – I’m on Xbox One.
Weed
Weed! Chronic! Bud! Flame! Whatever you call it I like it, I would like to consider myself a connoisseur. I lived in Amsterdam for four years and have been to over a hundred coffee shops, so I earned my stripes. My favourite place to blaze over there is this little shop called ‘The Grey Area‘ if you’re ever in Amsterdam look it up.
