“I have spent my entire life between synthesizers, vinyl and electronic drums.” M.R.E.U.X takes on our new look QnA.

Why music?

I am pretty sure I was born for this. I have spent my entire life between synthesizers, vinyl and electronic drums.

If you weren’t making music what would you be doing?

Honestly, I don’t know. I would probably be asking God to remake me as a musician.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

“Never give up and fight for what you want to be and achieve”. Mum

What inspires you?

Whatever is abstract. Psychedelic, dark, fantastic things…you know what I mean….

What’s the next big thing?

My next release. Or my next synthesizer. But, actually, if I was not restricted to just a single thing, I would say both.

Best club experience?

I’ve been to astonishing clubs, I have to be honest. But my favourite is definitely the Flex in Wien. It’s very underground. I loved the toilets…plenty of stickers for techno labels on the walls.

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?

Let’s start by saying that there is no good or bad job when you must earn money to live. However, I remember how I felt when when I was cooking in professional kitchens while my friends were clubbing and having fun.

How do you know when a track’s finished?

When I start dancing around my studio and traveling with my mind, without thinking of anything else.

What was your last day job and when did you realise you could give it up?

I was 15. I was a cook. But then I bought my first Technics 1210

Which song do you wish you wrote?

I would have loved to write Heroes by David Bowie, working side by side Brian Eno.

What’s the easiest way to make it in the music industry?

There is no easy way. As with everything, you must study, study and study.

What’s the worst track you’ve ever released?

Honestly, I do not remember having released terrible tracks. I have always wanted to express my musical concept in the best way possible.

Recommend us a film.

Schindler’s list.

Recommend us a book.

Zoo Station: The Story of Christiane F.

What or who is underrated?

Poverty. Children dying every f**cking day without being able to afford bread. Nobody thinks about them.

What or who is overrated?

Football. Players are totally overpaid, without taking into consideration the answer to the previous question.

What are you addicted to?

I am 100% addicted to robot manga from the 80s. I have a fantastic collection and I am as happy as a 5 year old child when a new one is released.

What do you lust over?

I wish everybody lived a life of satisfaction.

What is your greatest regret?

Not having continued playing football. I took a different path due to my young age.

What one thing would most improve your life?

I would really like to have bionic eyes, since I am suffering from a vision disorder. I would definitely get rid of it.

What’s the worst gig you’ve ever played?

I had quite a few bad gigs as a teenager. But I still want to remember them as having purpose. They made me grow and improve my performance.

Collaboration: rich creative experience or pain in the ass?

100% rich creative experience. It is a great possibility to grow (professionally and personally), and even though it does not always lead to satisfactory results, it helps me understand how the business works…and it helps me to improve my English!

What’s the secret to a great mix?

It must be created with your soul and aimed at capturing emotions but also not forgetting to make their asses move on the dancefloor.

If you could only listen to one more track, what would it be?

New Gold Dream from Simple Minds. Chills.

How do you relax?

Cold beer and TV. Easy.

What one piece of software/kit could you not do without? Why?

Cubase. My first partner, my best friend and my perfect lover.

Art or money?

If you are talented enough, you can make money with art.

Ronaldo or Messi?

Maradona!

Strangest place you ever wrote a track?

I remember being on a beach, with my beautiful dog and my TB-303…the good old times when there was no mobile phone, tablet or laptop. Everything was analogue.

Must-read blogs/forums?

I am not really into blogs.

What’s your single biggest frustration in the music industry?

There is no more vinyl business. Everything is just streaming.

What’s your favourite label? Why?

Transmit, without any doubt. I loved artists from Detroit. One of the best labels ever.

What’s the worst thing about making music?

I hate whoever sells appearance, and nothing more. It is terrifying how many top artists are totally ignorant about music nowadays.

What’s your motto?

Live and let people live.

Name something timeless

Me, myself and I. Just joking…my grandparents.

Tweet us a tip. What’s the best production advice you can give in 140 characters or less?

Produce music because you have passion, not to make money.

…nothing. I am happy of what I have reached.

Can music change the world?

I think music is able to change moods, make people dream, fall in love. I cannot imagine a world without music.

What are you listening to right now?

Baseball Furies from The Warriors.

What should you do before you die?

A Dj set in the middle of the sea. Maybe under water…it would be so sick!
