Kinder are Briony and Savannah, sisters from Maitland, Australia, making waves in electronic music. While sibling duos are common in other genres, it’s rare to find such a dynamic family pairing in dance music. Naturally, we had questions — so we sat them down for a quick Q&A.

Why music?

Because the world can’t exist without it.

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

Savannah – Clinical psychologist, something in marketing, or maybe acting. I’m not quite sure.
Briony – Social worker.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Savannah – Hard conversations = easy life. Easy conversations = hard life.
Briony – Rejection can be the greatest guidance of all.

What inspires you?

Other creatives and people doing what they love. We learn so much from bold artists who share their work authentically.

What’s the next big thing?

Algae technology. Look into it.

Best club experience?

Poof Doof at The Ivy – our first show after lockdown. The energy was incredible.

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?

Savannah – A local café in high school. I used to have nightmares because the boss was so scary and once called me incompetent in front of everyone.

Briony – A men’s clothing store in Australia (not naming names). The manager made me work with a bucket behind the counter while I was sick.

How do you know when a track’s finished?

We don’t.

What was your last day job and when did you realise you could give it up?

After high school, we committed fully to music. We took every small club gig we could, lived paycheque to paycheque, and never looked back.

Which song do you wish you wrote?

Savannah – “Graceland” by Paul Simon.
Briony – “Ribs” by Lorde.

What’s the easiest way to make it in the music industry?

Don’t stop until you do.

What’s the worst track you’ve ever released?

We’ll tell you our second worst because we couldn’t handle it if you found the worst. Our song “Something More” is… cute.

Recommend us a film.

Savannah – Shutter Island. A great psychological thriller—I still don’t get it.
Briony – Casper Meets Wendy.

Recommend us a book.

Savannah – Conversations on Love.
Briony – The Universe Has Your Back.

What or who is underrated?

Savannah – Umbrellas. With all our technology, no one’s improved them.
Briony – Mason Dane.

What or who is overrated?

Savannah – Seafood and coffee.
Briony – Vaping.

What are you addicted to?

Savannah – Overthinking my problems.
Briony – Love on the Spectrum (at the moment).

What do you lust over?

Savannah – Tiramisu.
Briony – I think I need to find something to lust over.

What is your greatest regret?

Savannah – I don’t live like that.
Briony – Not believing in myself sooner.

What one thing would most improve your life?

Savannah – Getting my things back. I was mugged this week and lost everything important. But I’m grateful to be safe.

Briony – Honestly, I really like my life. I try to stay grateful.

What’s the worst gig you’ve ever played?

A Sydney show years ago. Hardly anyone showed up and the decks fell on the few that did. No one got hurt, but we still talk about it.

Collaboration: rich creative experience or pain in the ass?

Rich creative experience.

What’s the secret to a great mix?

A journey.

If you could only listen to one more track, what would it be?

Savannah – “WWT” by Lorde (at the moment).
Briony – “Rust” by Ben Böhmer.

How do you relax?

Savannah – Drawing and painting.
Briony – Spending time with my best friends.

What one piece of software or kit could you not do without? Why?

Savannah – Nexus. It was my go-to sound bank. I just lost it when I got robbed — still a bit sensitive.
Briony – Rekordbox. Every one of our sets is on there.

Art or money?

Art.

Ronaldo or Messi?

Ronaldo — we’re not really sure who Messi is, oops.

Strangest place you ever wrote a track?

The steps at IKEA in Burbank, LA.

Must-visit record store?

Technique in Shibuya (sadly now shut)

What’s your single biggest frustration in the music industry?

There’s still a lack of equity for female, non-binary artists, and people of colour — especially in dance music.

What’s your favourite label? Why?

Savannah – Warner—they believed in us from the start.
BrionySound International (Idris Elba’s label).

What’s the worst thing about making music?

Too many cooks in the kitchen. It can overcomplicate things.

What’s your motto?

All is well.

Name something timeless

Miles Davis’s music.

Tweet us a tip. What’s the best production advice you can give in 140 characters or less?

Build up your sound library. Patience is everything—you can learn something new every day.

Complete this sentence: At heart, I’m just a frustrated…

Spirit living a human experience.

If someone saw one of your performances in 1,000 years’ time, what would it tell them about 2025?

There were no boundaries.

Can music change the world?

It can heal it.

What are you listening to right now?

Lo-fi study music.

What should you do before you die?

Love hard. Do that thing you can’t stop thinking about.

Find Kinder on Instagram and catch them on tour this June.
