Two decades deep in the game, the techno master finally releases his first studio album. We asked him to show us his studio.
Christian Wünsch – My Studio
The studio is located in the middle of nowhere. It’s run by a Mac Pro using Ableton Live to sequence all the components, although I also have a Doepfer MAQ16 that I use to sequence old gear. The soundcard is a MOTU Traveller and the monitors that I’m using right now are the Yamaha HS80M and the small Event PS5s biamplified.
Korg Mono/Poly
The Mono/Poly is my favourite synth in the studio. It has four VCOs which can be shared in four voices and it also has a wicked VCF. I love it! Amazing sounds. A real space synth! and the best thing is that I bought it about 12 years ago for only €200.
Roland MC-202
I was looking for a 202 for years and finally not very long ago I found one on the internet with the upgrade for CV/gate filter and portamento, which is perfect to connect to the Kenton Pro-Solo MIDI to CV converter. Lovely baselines – a pure analogue sound. The whole Roland family is finally together: 202, 303, 606 and 909.
Roland TR-909
The classic 909. I bought this a long time ago from a guy in Barcelona. I had to sell one of my Technics SL1200s ’cause I didn’t have enough money to buy it.
The bad thing is that the guy who sold me the TR-909 didn’t tell me that it was badly broken inside. Not a very nice guy… The good thing is that a few years later I could have it fixed by a friend from Slovakia who is a fucking genius!
Elektron Monomachine
The Elektron Monomachine is a beast. A really powerful synth from Sweden. I first saw it at Kero’s studio in Canada and I fell in love with the sound. It has five independent monosynths in one box.
Access Virus TI
The Virus TI is probably the synth that I use the most. Its computer integration is great and the filters are super.
Doepfer MAQ-16/3 Step Sequencer
The original MAQ 16/3 analogue-style step sequencer, developed with the help of Kraftwerk’s Florian Schneider!! Fast, Furious and Funky!!
The MAQ is a pretty fast machine to work with, you get immediate and usually satisfying results, that´s why I love it!! and have used it and still do, a lot!!
Volkswagen T3
Finally, my old Volkswagen. I had a VW T3 for years. This was a present from a good friend.
