“I’m Low Steppa, I’m 5’9″ and I love David Bowie and eating pizza.” The hard-working house producer introduces himself.

Low Steppa

Who are you?

I’m Low Steppa, I’m 5’9″ and I love David Bowie and eating pizza. I lalso love watching shit movies and drinking coffee (which I’ve likely taken from a hotel on the weekend). I spend most of my time making music/noise and have done for as long as I can remember now.

What do you sound like?

I sound like house music mixed with all sorts of other stuff, like house, tech, deep, whatever people label things as these days, I can’t keep up.

Why should we listen to you?

Because I got bullied at school because I have one big ear. Maybe this was telling me I should be a DJ. Also because it’s fun and maybe it will make you dance and enjoy yourselves and not take things too seriously.

What have you released so far? What else have you got coming out in the near future?

I’ve released lots of music on my own label Simma Black, which my new single ‘So Real’ is out on now. I’ve also remixed a few people recently like Oliver Heldens, Armand Van Helden, Corbu, Chocolate Puma, Route 94 and Sam Smith.

What song sums you up? Why?

Maybe my new track ‘The Panel’, which is the b-side to ‘So Real’. Its got piano stabs and old-style US garage beats, some bass and some organ. Basically has all the Low Steppa elements in one. Lovely!

What or who is your biggest influence and why?

Prince, because I’ve listened to him since I was a small person and he’s just insanely talented and wears heels.

Where can we hear your music?

The best place is on SoundCloud.

Where will you be in five years’ time?

Hopefully not on benefits, hopefully still in the clubs playing music loud.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.

I have terrible OCD and really struggle to leave the house.
