La Kajofol’s mystical techno continues to bedazzle. We asked her to introduce herself with a release on Indira Paganottos’ ARTCORE label about to drop on Sept 7th.

Who are you?

I am La Kajofol, a female techno producer.

Where are you from?

From South of France, living in the ‘Black Mountains’ about 1 hour from Toulouse.

What do you sound like?

I like to call my music ‘mystical techno’ because my sound is kind of bewitching, mainly because I record and use my own voice in my productions.

Why should we follow what you’re doing?

Because I think that I have a rather unique style, mixing the deep kicks of techno with the lightness of the melodies and voices that I record.

I always try to reinvent myself and mix several musical influences in my songs, so that my audience is always surprised and never gets tired of my compositions…

Which of your tracks sums you up? Why?

Two tracks that reflects me a lot and are completely different:

La Kajofol – ‘Witch Me Up’.

A pumpy-trance track with a main vocal very mystical.

La Kajofol – ‘Ring The Hell’

More hard techno track with a very deep and powerful kick contrasted by ethereal lyrics and aerial atmospheres.

What have you got coming out in the near future?

Since the beginning of 2023, I have produced a lot of tracks (about ten) that have not yet been released and are planned on big labels. I can’t wait to share them finally; they’ll be coming out by the end of the year.

What or who is your biggest influence and why?

I draw my inspiration from my everyday life, the simple fact of being happy when I wake up means that I am never lacking in inspiration.

I also travel a lot, which gives me breaths of fresh air when I need to refocus on myself.

But the most important is the place where I compose: my studio is my haven of peace, but I can also spend hours in front of the ocean and compose on my laptop.

How did you get into DJing/producing to begin with?

Let’s say that I have always been passionate about music. I taught myself to play many instruments when I was younger, and I always loved to sing.

Later, I discovered free parties and the techno movement, and then I had the idea and the desire to mix this hard-hitting style with my voice. And today, it’s my universe.

What are three things on your studio shopping list?

Not to mention the basic equipment of a production studio… I would say a MIDI keyboard, a comfortable armchair, and a good espresso coffee machine!

“If you want to stand out from the crowd, you always have to do something different.

Who or what have you sacrificed for your art

I would say…a free and empty mind! Because even when you take vacations, when you produce music and have many projects like managing a label or anything else, you always think of something.

What’s been your favourite place to play so far?

Every place and every audience are different… But this summer, the public of the Dox’art Festival (Northern France) completely amazed me with their energy and their constant reactions throughout my set. It was magical!

Where can we hear your music?

On SoundCloud, Bandcamp or Spotify.

What one song would feature on the soundtrack to your life?

Tough question. But I would say Radiohead – ‘Reckoner’

What motivates you?

Always have more goals to achieve and projects to complete, whether personally or professionally.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.

I have a brother, I am of Belgian and Italian origin, I don’t like blackcurrants, and if I had to reincarnate myself in an animal, it would be a bird! Four facts for the price of one!

Complete this sentence: At heart I’m just a…

…wild child!

What’s the best bit of advice you’ve received?

It was my father who told me this when I was young, and I still remember it:

“If you want to stand out from the crowd, you always have to do something different.”

I wanted to do that by using my voice in techno.

Where will you be in five years’ time?

I don’t really know… life is so unpredictable. But my dream would be to have two houses, each with a beautiful studio and a huge bay window overlooking the landscape.

One facing the ocean in the Landes in France, and one in the mountains in the Eastern Pyrenees where I was born and where my family is.
