“A flock of geese havin’ it out with an analogue drum machine.” Decka introduces his music.
Who are you?
I’m a Bristolian lad who has been listening to, DJing and producing techno and left-field music for about four years now. I currently work in a DJ shop and enjoy a frothy flat white from time to time.
What do you sound like?
A flock of geese havin’ it out with an analogue drum machine.
Why should we listen to you?
If you like dark and seductive sub bass patterns, fused with thrashy drum rhythms and the occasional twisted vocal hook, I’m your man.
What have you released so far? What else have you got coming out in the near future?
So far, a couple of records on the Berlin based SPE:C label. The most recent being my Isolated EP and my debut: Begyndelsen. I have another one due to come out very soon on SPE:C which I am very excited about!
I like keeping my output of music fairly minimal, not releasing too much. I am working on another potential release this year, nothing set in stone though.
What song sums you up? Why?
Takaaki Itoh – ‘Rooter.’ Taken from his A Fancy Haircut Will Not Help You To Make Better Tracks EP. I’d say the name of the EP sums me up more, I don’t have much of an interest in fashion.
What or who is your biggest influence and why?
I grew up listening to a lot of metal and hardcore music before I got into techno. This has a huge influence over my music today. I’ve always wanted to record a metal vocalist, then use this over slamming techno beats. Sadly, I’ve never known anyone who could sing/scream in this way. This will happen though.
Where can we hear your music?
All the usual platforms – YouTube, SoundCloud, various DJ mixes and record stores, festivals, clubs. Mostly clubs in Europe, I think. I run a bi-weekly radio show on a local, Bristol radio station called Noods FM, so I guess on there as well.
Where will you be in five years’ time?
I hope to be out of Bristol. I love the place, will always be able to call it home but I have been here for far too long – 17 years! I’d like a change of scenery. I will be playing records regularly and continuing my journey with production. I’d also love to start a live show and own a dog.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.
I have an orange slit, my birthmark, in my right eye.
