“The best advice I’ve received is to invest plenty of time and money in your career because no one important cares about your music career but you”. Chemtrailz introduces himself.
With support from techno luminaries such as Amelie Lens, Charlotte De Witte, Paula Temple, Rebekah, Volvox, Ellen Allien and more, Chemtrailz also caught the attention of Boiler Room who featured him on their “Hard Dance” series in 2021, growing his name worldwide.
Following on from his last release in May on Amelie Lens’s Exhale Exhale, “The Future is Matriarchy” on Amelie Lens’s Exhale VA004, Chemtrailz returns with a four-track EP ‘Eternally Yours, Truly’ in memory of his late mother is out now.
Who are you?
I am The Organic Chemtrail Project aka Chemtrailz and owner of Terra Novae Label.
Where are you from?
I’m from Austin, Texas and the Los Angeles area is my second home.
What do you sound like?
I sound like hard euphoric techno with deep booming kicks and subs.
Why should we follow what you’re doing?
I’ve been working hard outside the box to create a new sound that has never been done before. But, I have so much I feel I have yet to express; this can only be the beginning.
Which of your tracks sums you up? Why?
I’m sorry, but the real answer to this question is a track that’s not out yet. You’re gonna have to stay tuned for that answer…
What have you got coming out in the near future?
I just finished the biggest track of my career thus far, but I can’t say much about it yet.
The best advice I've received is to invest plenty of time and money in your career because no one important cares about your music career but you.
What or who is your biggest influence and why?
As far as techno goes, I’d say Alignment has had the most impact on me. His take on hard techno and trance was a breath of fresh air and inspired me to stop trying to fit in and combine the sounds I really like.
How did you get into DJing/producing to begin with?
I always wanted to produce music since I was 12, but I didn’t find rave music until college in Austin. When I finished college I decided to enroll in audio school at 24 and began to produce.
What are three things on your studio shopping list?
Genelec portable monitors are number one. I already travel a lot and will be spending more time in EU soon, so I need good portable monitors. Could use an upgrade to Genelec studio monitors soon. Eventually a second MacBook.
Who or what have you sacrificed for your art
I have a successful day job as a horticulturist, but I could have gotten much further and possibly become very wealthy had I not dedicated so much time to my art over the past 10 years. I don’t regret one moment though.
What’s been your favourite place to play so far?
My favorite crowd so far is Barcelona hands down. They get so lost in the sound in Spain and the BCN crowd is soo dedicated and supportive.
Where can we hear your music?
What one song would feature on the soundtrack to your life?
I’m sorry I can’t answer that. I don’t have any favorite songs because the soundtrack in my head constantly evolves and changes according to my mood and vibration. I don’t even have a favorite artist or band. I love too many songs to choose one.
What motivates you?
Raising people’s moods and vibrations through the joy they experience in my music is what motivates me.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.
I used to throw parties in college and once hosted Bone Thugs n Harmony at my fraternity’s house party. It got shut down by authorities, but they got in a 30-minute backyard performance before that happened…
Complete this sentence: At heart I’m just a…
I’m just a human trying to continue my evolution and help others evolve.
What’s the best bit of advice you’ve received?
The best advice I’ve received is to invest plenty of time and money in your career because no one important cares about your music career but you.
Where will you be in five years’ time?
In 5 years I would like to be hosting my own parties and stages under my Terra Novae label, and an Ibiza residency would be amazing.
