You’re only two releases into Not So Much now. How’s the learning curve been? Has it been tough to get it all up and running?

I can’t say tough, no. But finding music… I’m in awe of certain labels. Where do they find this stuff? I guess when you have a label with a few more releases and a certain ethos built up, like-minded people send you material.

So far both releases have come from you. What’s the plan in terms of opening that up to other artists?

NSM003 is not me! But yeah, I’m all ears. Demos to notsomuchdemos@gmail.com. I’m looking for exciting new music on the darker side of things. Mature but freaky, experimental stuff for the club that makes people move and does something – anything, really – to their hearts.

But finding music... I'm in awe of certain labels. Where do they find this stuff?

Are you more interested in discovering new artists or working with people who’ve got a few releases under their belt?

I’ve never been any good at collaborating, or been part of a group or anything, but I’d love to build up some sort of family with the label, and new artists is probably a good way to do that. But I don’t care whether you have 50 releases or none, as long as we share something musically. Finding tracks for the label is very different to finding tracks for a set. That’s part of the joy of being a DJ, being able to take a track and decontextualise it – a track you like by an artist you don’t. With a label, that all goes out of the window. You’re building solid foundations. If I got an amazing track from someone but hated the rest of their output it would be a very difficult position to be in.

That idea of recontextualising something is really interesting. Can you give us some recent examples of tracks you’ve been playing which might fit into that category?

Well a lot of people who I know personally fit into that category so I don’t want to mention too many names… But take Danny Daze for example, who I don’t know personally. I thought he was this kind of Hot Creations/Moda Black/Noir type producer, but he did this Daniel Avery remix which I play. I’ve edited it slightly but yeah, that’s interesting. It’s still kinda got that commercial edge to a few of the production aspects, but interesting. Some of the minimal stuff as well, post Rob Hood/Dan Bell, when minimal was really starting to take off in Europe, late 90s through to 2010ish, Playhouse, Perlon, Plus 8, Kompact, for me that sound generally didn’t do it for me but there are real gems from that period and that sound.

Finally, to go back to what you said about social media, I really enjoy your love/hate relationship with Twitter. How would you describe your social media strategy?

People get paid £2,800 to describe their social media strategy. I don’t have one.
