Festival company World Club Dome put on the drive-in rave in Germany.

EDM festival and events company World Club Dome put on a drive-in rave in a car park in Germany last week. The event, where all participants except the DJs remained in their cars for the entire duration is a response to the current worldwide Covid-19 social distancing measures.

The inaugural ‘Drive-In Edition’ took place in Düsseldorf and featured performances from  DJs Le Shuuk, Tiefblau, Plastikfunk and Topic. Aside from the installation of a full club sound system, the DJs were accompanied by the usual festival accoutrements of smoke machines, laser light show, pyrotechnics and fireworks. To fully comply with social distancing restrictions, each car was limited to only two people.

The following day World Club Dome made this announcement on their Facebook: “Good morning dear World Clubbers! Hope you had a good sleep after an amazing party night! We found a way to make you happy again and bring smiles to your faces”. The company have a second Drive-In Edition scheduled for the 20th May with DJ Alle Farben.

The World Club Dome rave is one of a number of open-air drive-in events currently taking place in Europe. Forbes magazine recently reported that Danish singer/songwriter Mads Langer played a drive-in concert in Aarhus, Scandinavia. Event-goers tuned into FM radio to hear the performance. Club Index in Schüttorf, Germany have also put on a drive-in rave or ‘auto-party’ in their venue’s car park. Dutch DJ Nevin Wild headlined and posted a video on his Twitter feed of the event:

Although some European countries are now looking at easing their social distancing restrictions, it seems unlikely that large-scale festivals, concerts and events will return in the immediate future.
