To support the release of Desire: The Carl Craig Story, the techno legend has released “No More Words” digitally for the first time.
Carl Craig has announced the release of an official soundtrack to Desire: The Carl Craig Story, a new documentary focused on his life and work. Released via Planet E Communications, the collection includes material from various points in Craig’s career, including tracks that have not previously been available digitally.
The first release from the soundtrack is “No More Words,” originally issued in 1991 and now available to stream and download for the first time. The track reflects the sound Craig was developing during the early 1990s and sits within the broader context of Detroit’s evolving techno scene.
The film, directed by Jean-Cosme Delaloye and produced by Sovereign Films, charts Craig’s journey from Detroit to the international stage, alongside the wider economic and cultural shifts in the city itself. It includes reference to his music and wider work in visual art and fashion, including his Party/After-Party installation — now part of the Detroit Institute of Arts — and collaborations with Bottega Veneta.
Interviewees in the film include Gilles Peterson, DJ Minx, Laurent Garnier, Roni Size, Kenny Larkin, Moritz von Oswald and James Lavelle. The documentary aims to provide insight into Craig’s role in highlighting Detroit’s Black creative output and the historical connections between African-American culture and electronic music.
Desire: The Carl Craig Story will open in 30 cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 8 May. A US release is also in development.
