The best chillout record?

Smokers Delight – Nightmares On Wax. When I chill out I don’t often listen to it but when you say chillout I think of the genre and this was probably one of the best. Early Warp release from Leeds-based DJ Ease and it went huge. I remember chilling out to it for sure. But if it has to be one track then ‘Les Nuits’, the cut off his next album, Carboot Soul, is the one.

The record everyone loves but you hate?

I hate to say it but I really wasn’t into ‘Hey Hey’ by Dennis Ferrer. I love a lot of his tunes and really love his music but this record just didn’t do it for me when everyone was going crazy for it. I think it’s the vocal that annoys me. The instrumental’s actually pretty amazing.

The best record for a family party?

‘Fairytale Of New York’ by the Pogues. My family love getting pissed and singing this at Christmas, usually after a massive meal and a few arguments over presents. Nothing better to forgive and forget the years of sadness and hard times than an old Irish classic drenched in alcohol.

The soundtrack to a lazy Sunday afternoon?

‘Naima’ by John Coltrane is the perfect record for any time of the week, any time of day, but I’ve spent many Sundays listening to this, getting stoned and drinking red wine. It’s pure beauty in a record.

The future classic?

Tame Impala – Lonerism. I was a massive fan of their first record and this has just come out and I am in love with it. ‘Apocalypse Dreams’ is my favourite track on there. It’s just too good to describe in words – you just have to buy this record. It’s definitely a future classic. Future lo-fi psychedelia. It just makes me want to go to a field and get high with my friends for the rest of my life.
