Who are you?

Hi! My name is Churchill Pankhurst aka DJ Spookz.

What do you sound like?

I suppose you could say my music sounds like a mixture between grime, UK funky and bassline with influences from jungle and UK garage with a hint of house.

Why should we listen to you?

That’s a tricky question! I believe my music brings energy and rawness to the listener as well as a musical journey, cutting through different genres and aspects of underground UK music to create my own sound and style. While staying in and around the 130-140 bpm range, that is.

What have you released so far?

I dropped my first release, the Pirate Times EP, in 2010 on Undisputed Records. Since then I’ve put out two more EPs – Monsters From The Lab (Soundplate) and Turntabala (Four40 Records). I also have a couple of remixes out.

What else have you got coming out in the future?

I just dropped a four track EP called Bring The Beat Back on No Hats No Hoods Records and I have music coming out on Vex Records.

What song sums you up and why?

Ermm I’d say Hard House Banton – ‘Sirens’ because of the hard driving bass lines and skippy beats.

What or who is your biggest influence and why?

Garage and grime, the likes of DJ EZ, Wiley and Dizzee. I was just captured by the energy Wiley and Dizzee’s music had back then. I also loved 2-step and the 4×4 sound EZ was playing – not so much the vocals, more the darker beats.

Where can we hear your music?

You can hear my music over on my SoundCloud or lock in to my radio show on Flex FM the first Tuesday of every month 4-6pm.

Where will you be in five years time?

Hopefully DJing around the world spreading love and bass as well as releasing more music of course!

Tell us a interesting fact about yourself.

I am related to Emmeline Pankhurst.
