Sounding ‘like Craig David in hell’, Stubborn Heart fuse indie songwriting with electronic production. We asked them to introduce themselves…
Who are you?
My name is Luca Santucci and his name is Ben Fitzgerald. We’re two friends who have been making music on and off together since the turn of the millennium. I’ve been lucky enough to work with an endless list of great producers such as Leila, Plaid, Trevor Jackson, Soulwax, Mark Brydon and Kirk Degiorgio and Ben has spent his time producing, mixing and engineering for a wide range of artists from grime to classical.
What do you sound like?
One reviewer said we sound ‘like Craig David in hell’, which is a better description than I can come up with.
Why should we listen to you?
Maybe you shouldn’t. It’s not to everyone’s taste. If a guy moaning about lost love over another bloke’s sombre electronic tones floats your boat then give it a go. If it doesn’t, give the next album a listen – it might be completely different.
What have you released so far? What else have you got coming out in the near future?
We’ve released two singles and an album and there will be another two singles coming off it.
What song sums you up?
I suppose that would be our most popular tune, ‘Need Someone’. It’s got a sweet and simple melody, the lyrics are bearable and it has some nice impact moments. It’s trying to be emotional but hopefully not trying too hard.
What or who is your biggest influence and why?
We love all kinds of music but I wouldn’t say we have one big influence. Ben likes latin music, I like modal jazz. Ben likes Roger Troutman, I like James Brown. Ben likes French house, I like Detroit techno. Ben likes the Neptunes, I like Timbaland. We love it all so it all influences us.
Where can we hear your music?
The usual places – YouTube and SoundCloud.
Where will you be in five years’ time?
Sitting in the sun somewhere in the Tuscan hills having completed four albums, each one better than the last.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.
We’ve both won a tenner on the lottery.
