“Dreamy, vibey, relaxing?” Liquid drum and bass producer Jack Higgins introduces Pola & Bryson.
Who are you?
I’m Jack, one half of Pola & Bryson.
What do you sound like?
I’m not too sure, to be completely honest. We make liquid drum and bass, so you could say we sound dreamy, vibey, relaxing? But our personalities definitely don’t reflect our music. In the past we’ve had our sound compared to producers such as Etherwood, LSB and Technimatic, which is nice to hear.
Why should we listen to you?
We make music because we absolutely love it. It gives us such joy to make beautiful music and we hope that others enjoy it also, as it’s just an added bonus. Not sure if that’s reason enough, but we hope it is.
What have you released so far? What else have you got coming out in the near future?
We began producing as a duo just over 18 months ago and have since released singles and EPs on Soulvent Records, Hospital Records, Spearhead Records and Liquicity. We’ve also spent the past 12 months working on an album which is out on the 8th of August. Beyond that, we cannot say at risk of getting in lots of trouble.
What song sums you up? Why?
As producers, from our own back catalogue, probably our track ‘The Music’. It perfectly encapsulates what we love about the music that we make, which is very fitting as it was the first official collaborative track we ever released so it has a lot of sentimentality to us.
What or who is your biggest influence and why?
This is a tough one. In the past year we’ve had to privilege to meet, speak and work with some of our biggest heroes in music like BCee, LTJ Bukem, London Elektricity, Roni Size and Technimatic. We grew up listening to their music and it’s what drove us to want to make what we make today. There’s so many others that deserve a mention but we don’t have all day.
I also decided a few years back to return to studying. I attended Community Music over in Whitechapel, where I had access to some amazing equipment and help from some really friendly and professional teachers and staff. The past two years are when all of my biggest acheivements have happened and CM has provided a massive contribution towards me achieving my goals over these past few years.

Where will you be in five years’ time?
We’re hoping to still be on the rise with our music. Hopefully just doing what we’re doing right now but to a larger audience. It’s hard to tell at this point what the future holds. It’s anyones guess really.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.
I’m a massive nerd. Comics, games, films, you name it, I’m obsessed with it. Not many people know but I love it. It’s a nice release from music from time to time.
