Cocktail umbrellas, funk and veggie gardens. Aussie house producer Justin Erougian introduces himself.

Who are you?

A 21-year-old dude from Melbourne, writing music under the name Airwolf and taking photos under the name Airwolf Paradise. I started playing at friends’ house parties in high school. My dad DJs so I always had access to equipment and stuff. Then I moved on to clubs once I was kind of old enough to get in. Then started meeting amazing people in the music scene all over Australia. Got signed to a great dance label, Sweat It Out (RIP Jaxy), released a funky track called ‘Believer’ through them, did a crap load of remixes, mixtapes and started my photography/website/blog, Airwolf Paradise, which was photos documenting Aussie parties and drunken babes partying. And here I am today, rocking it on OneLove recordings with lots of things planned! Exciting times.

What do you sound like?

Coconut with a bendy straw. A little cocktail umbrella. Sitting on a tropical beach in front of clear blue water and sun. Lots and lots of sun. Even some retro babes for sure.

Why should we listen to you?

Because you want to dance and feel good!

What have you released so far?

‘Believer’ out on Sweat It Out Records. A lot of remixes out on various labels such as Sweat It Out, Modular, Central Station Records and more.

What else have you got coming out in the near future?

My new single ‘Hanging On’, out now on OneLove recordings. And a new remix for Sterling Silver thats got heaps of bass for your face!

What song sums you up? Why?

‘Let’s Swing’ by The Brothers Johnson. No words, just like me. Simple, strong, funky, epic!

What or who is your biggest influence and why?

Every bit of music I hear. A lot of 70s and 80s funk though. Bands need to bring back the funk! Kanye west is a huge influence to me, the way he knows what he wants and goes to great lengths to get it or make it happen. Only one difference from me to him though: he has the money to make things happen, unlike me. I have to make those things happen on my own. Eh, tough life.

Where can we hear your music?

Where will you be in five years’ time?

Working with heaps of talented singers and musicians and playing at the sickest parties. Living in a nice big house with my girlfriend, my dog Lulu, my cat Harry and a massive veggie garden! I can’t wait to have my own veggie garden so badly. Maybe a boat too?

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.

I like to think I can talk to cats and chicks dig my super hairy chest.

Airwolf’s ‘Hanging On’ is out now on Beatport via OneLove and available to pre-order on iTunes. Find Airwolf on Facebook, Twitter and SoundCloud.
